At PC Architects, in close collaboration with 1PAX Architects, we were appointed lead interior designers for the landmark Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport. Our scope encompassed the complete interior architectural language of the 78,000 m² passenger terminal, with particular focus on the ceiling, structural columns, and wall systems. Drawing directly from Maldivian heritage, we translated the fluid geometry of breaking waves over coral reefs, the rhythmic patterns of traditional hirigaa limestone carvings, and the delicate latticework of dhoni sail shadows into a contemporary architectural vocabulary. The iconic undulating ceiling, spanning the full length of the departure hall, is formed by thousands of parametrically designed aluminum blades that simultaneously control acoustics, diffuse natural light, and evoke the perpetual motion of the Indian Ocean. Columns are clad in perforated panels that reinterpret classic Maldivian geometric motifs, gradually dissolving into cloud-like perforations as they rise, while feature walls incorporate hand-finished limestone textures that catch and play with the ever-changing tropical light. The flooring is designed to evoke the sea—flowing waves of cyan blending into sandy beige tones, creating a serene, shoreline-inspired palette Every surface was conceived not merely as enclosure, but as a quiet celebration of Maldivian identity — ensuring that the moment travellers step inside, they are already immersed in the soul of the archipelago.
This residential building is located in the Therme area of Thessaloniki, showcasing a striking futuristic design that sets it apart in the urban landscape. Its innovative architecture features elegant curved walls that create a dynamic flow, enhancing both aesthetic appeal and structural integrity. The expansive terraces go beyond private balconies, offering vibrant public spaces where residents naturally gather, interact, and share everyday moments — whether challenging each other to a game of ping-pong, lounging on sunbeds under the Mediterranean sky, or simply enjoying conversations with neighbors. This modern living space is not just a home; it represents a bold vision for contemporary urban living, merging style, functionality, and genuine community in a vibrant neighborhood.

το αρχιτεκτονικό μας γραφείο, σε στενή συνεργασία με την 1PAX Architects, αναλε τον ρόλο του επικεφαλή σχεδιαστή εσωτερικών χώρων για το εμβληματικό Terminal 1 του Διεθνούς Αερολιμένα Velana. Το πεδίο ευθύνης μας περιέλαμβανε τη συνολική αρχιτεκτονική γλώσσα των εσωτερικών χώρων των 78.000 m² του νέου τερματικού σταθμού, με ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στην οροφή, τους κίονες και τα συστήματα τοίχων. Αντλώντας έμπνευση απευθείας από την πολιτιστική κληρονομιά των Μαλδίβων, μετατρέψαμε τη ρευστή γεωμετρία των κυμάτων που σπάζουν πάνω σε κοραλλιογενείς υφάλους, τα ρυθμικά μοτίβα των παραδοσιακών σκαλισμάτων hirigaa από ασβεστόλιθο και τις λεπτές πλέξεις σκιάς από τα πανιά των παραδοσιακών σκαφών dhoni σε ένα σύγχρονο αρχιτεκτονικό λεξιλόγιο. Η εμβληματική κυματοειδής οροφή, που εκτείνεται σε όλο το μήκος της αίθουσας αναχωρήσεων, διαμορφώνεται από χιλιάδες παραμετρικά σχεδιασμένες λεπίδες αλουμινίου που ταυτόχρονα ελέγχουν την ακουστική, διαχέουν το φυσικό φως και προκαλούν την αίσθηση της αέναης κίνησης του Ινδικού Ωκεανού. Οι κίονες επενδύονται με διάτρητα πάνελ που επαναπροσεγγίζουν κλασικά γεωμετρικά μοτίβα των Μαλδίβων και σταδιακά διαλύονται σε νεφελώδεις διατρήσεις όσο ανεβαίνουν, ενώ οι τοίχοι-χαρακτηριστικά ενσωματώνουν χειροποίητες υφές ασβετόλιθου που αιχμαλωτίζουν και παίζουν με το διαρκώς μεταβαλλόμενο τροπικό φως. Το δάπεδο αντικατοπτρίζει τη φυσική συνάντηση θάλασσας και ακτής, συνδυάζοντας στρωματώσεις κυανών με απαλό μπεζ, θυμίζοντας κύματα που κυλούν στην άμμο. Κάθε επιφάνεια σχεδιάστηκε όχι απλώς ως περίβλημα, αλλά ως μια ήσυχη γιορτή της ταυτότητας των Μαλδίβων – διασφαλίζοντας ότι από τη στιγμή που οι ταξιδιώτες εισέρχονται, βυθίζονται ήδη στην ψυχή του αρχιπελάγους.
